The NESCent Durham page has links to various local dining and entertainment options. Durham Yelp is also a good source for local business information and reviews. Here is a list of some specific suggestions. There are plenty of other things not on this list!

Close to NESCent

  • your best options for lunch are on 9th street, just east of NESCent, or at Erwin Square, across the field to the west of NESCent.
  • the Whole Foods on the corner of Broad and Perry has a good salad bar, plus sandwiches, pizza and sushi. You can also stock up your Duke Tower kitchen here.
  • you can sometimes find a food truck at Sam's Quik Shop, which is also the best place in Durham to buy beer, despite looking like nothing but a gas station convenience store from the outside.
  • if you are looking for drinks, the classic NESCent hangout is Dain's Place on 9th street. They also have burgers and other bar food.
  • during one of the breaks, you should definitely head over for a locally-made Locopop

Close to Duke Tower

  • American Tobacco: worth the trip even if just to see the transformation of this former tobacco campus
  • The Federal has beers and bar food, and is walkable from Duke Tower
  • Fullsteam is a local brewery. They do not have a kitchen, but there are often food trucks outside.
  • Geer Street Garden has beers and bar food, and a great patio if it isn't stinking hot :)
  • Brightleaf area, just south of the hotel; several restaurants of various types
  • Toast: Italian sandwich shop in Downtown Durham

Getting around

  • We'll have shuttles that go from Duke Tower -> NESCent in the morning and NESCent -> Duke Tower at the end of the day.
  • the free Bull City Connector bus is an option if you want to stay at NESCent or on 9th St later than the shuttles, but don't want to walk back.
